JR BLU

When it comes to R&B, how do you describe the indescribable? And the answer is:

JR Blu!

JR Blu is an American singer, songwriter, saxophone player and record producer.  JR Blu has helped to shape the sound called "NEW OLD SCHOOL".  Bright and energetic, this new artist and performer has combined a soulful, sultry sound with pulsating lyrics and driving melodies in his music.    Often compared to some of the greats, like Smoky Robinson, and Marvin Gaye.

This incredible young artist debut album entitled, "LOVE STATION," can most easily and efficiently be described as "New Old School."

Presently residing in Cleveland, Mississippi, JR Blu was born June 2, 1982 at the Bolivar County Hospital in Cleveland, Mississippi. The only son of William and Clara Fonville, William Fonville Jr., also known as JR Blu, grew up in nearby Ruleville, Mississippi. As a youth, he participated in sports thru Junior High School but then found his true love at Ruleville Central High School and her name was music. That's when he picked up the saxophone and joined the Ruleville Central Marching Band. His sophomore year he became the Drum Major and for the next three years he led the "Little Sonic Boom" in their performances.

However before leaving Junior High School, he forged an invaluable connection that would create an underlying passion that has fueled his soul 'til this very day. Blu and five of these friends formed a gospel group called "Rising Sons." During his years at RCH he began to hone his skills as a lyricist spending countless hours with pen and pad. While there he joined the school's Gospel Choir and through his stellar performance he was offered a scholarship in music to Mississippi Valley State University, where he was also a part of the MVSU Gospel Choir and the Jazz Combo.

During his second year at MVSU, Blu and two of his classmates, Jason Bernard and Jonathan Davenport, formed the R&B trio, Double Platinum. They performed at various functions at MVSU and local parties which led to a performance at the famous Isaac Hayes Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Double Platinum eventually parted and the members found other projects, while keeping in touch. JR Blu began his pursuit of a solo career and the "LOVE STATION" album was created.

JR BLU’S sophomore album showcased his mastery of his New Old School Sounds while upping the ante with the track “She’s Been Good” returning with the same pulsating melody but something even moreRecording at Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios in Memphis, TN, JR Blu, with the guidance of Grammy Award Winner Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell a sound like no other was created. The second hit single “If There’s Anybody Here” combines those same pulsating melodies but touches your soul with his old-school voice.  Tru Blu featured some of the greatest musicians in the world whom all are a part of his Band.As you listen to "Something New" and "Good Ya’ll” the body's call to motion is signaled. Demonstrating his versatility, his passion becomes evident showing the sensitivity and strength of a man's love for a woman and that there is still commitment, desire and romance in song with tracks "Queen" and "Just Relax,".

JR BLU is that rare instance of a rhythm and blues yet soul talent sharpening over time.  JR Blu has formed a forged a Partnership with The Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation and The Mississippi Arts Commission to support Cancer Research and The Arts in Mississippi.  There is more to come from this singer, songwriter, producer and philanthropist.   So, just keep your eyes open...His star's soon to streak across the horizon.
